RIP Jerry C Larson Jr (Harry Hamid)

Jerry (Harry Hamid) passed away August 27, 2019

My heart will never heal from this, but I guess I will have to live with it.

I wish there was a way that I could tell everyone who my brother was. He was the writer though.

He asked me the other day who was going to speak at his funeral, I told him that unfortunately it was going to be me. I then asked him if he could write it for me, but he said no.

He fought his battle hard, never once asked why him.

He was my hero, any music or movies or books all somehow can be traced back to him.

He wrote a few novels that he never had published, I hope to do something with them one day.

He loved writing. He wrote constantly, read constantly, listened to music constantly, and sometimes all at the same time.

I will write on here occasionally and let you guys in on who he was and some of the things that he did.

  6. Truly heart-breaking news. Now I know why Harry seemed to be on my mind so persistently yesterday. I checked this blog and his twitter to see if there were any updates. His twitter made it clear that he was counting down his final days. My condolences to you, his family and friends. Harry was such a talented and original writer. His stories and posts were always a delight to read. I've been following him for a few years, ever since he was blogging in character as his fictional creation, Katy. And he certainly had a warrior spirit in his battle against cancer. I hope you will give his cat Astro a good home.

  13. When I opened this, I wished with all my heart that it was one of his games... you know, when he pretended to be someone else and then would come back, and say, "Got you again!" Then I just stared at the screen, waiting for something to change. Sigh.

My condolences to you and your family. Your Jerry, our Harry, will live forever in the words he blessed us with, in the memories we keep.

  20. Harry Hamid was a talented writer and the sort of human I like best; flaws and circumstances were faced, humorously, honestly. I stand by my offer of being a beta reader for anything that Harry has written and his family would like to share with the world.
Like everyone here, I am at a loss for your loss but putting words together in hope of this appreciation being of comfort to you and the Larson family xx

  23. I had the privilege of attending Harry/Jerry’s memorial service. It was a packed house including professional peers, family friends and children. Jerry was highly respected in the legal aid community and was described as non-judgmental, an active listener and an educator. The family was presented with a certificate from the Mayor declaring August 27 as Jerry Larson, Jr. Day. His brother Jeff gave a loving eulogy. He got teary at the beginning and the church deacon stepped up, wrapped an arm around Jeff and read the eulogy until he could continue. It was a touching moment. Jeff referred to Jerry’s heroes, favorite musicians and books. I remember Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, William Burroughs and The Book by Alan Watts. I hope Jeff will post the text because the list was longer. Astro the cat has a good home. He lives with a delightful woman who has a young daughter that enjoys his furry companionship.

  26. I have been MIA for a long while so I decided to check in and read up on what misadventures Harry had been into ... only to read about his health battles and that he has passed away. Oh my gracious mercy, so sorry to hear about whats happened to you, Harry Hamid! My heart goes out to his family and those he held dear to his heart. It won't be the same around here and that writing style of yours, Harry! Jerry was one talented, intelligent and witty guy. He will sorely be missed.

  28. On 16 August last year we were talking on Facebook Messenger. He said:

    "Thursday was good.
I am spending my final days listening to music, reading about music, and watching The Food Network. My choice. It’s not an awful way to go.
If I live, I’m going to quit being a lawyer and become a chef. I know I’m not going to reach that point, but I’m still thinking about it."

    1. Thank you for sharing that Rupert.
He always thought with cooking that he never wanted to make something that took longer to cook than it did to eat. During this time period that he was sick, I think he wanted to change his focus from his normal interests to something that he didn't really know much about. I think he was trying to keep his mind busy. He went from opening a place that made tacos, then pizza, and I think he settled on hotdogs. He thought that there was a little more freedom to do what you wanted with hotdogs than the others.

      Jeff
